Parishioners took part in the annual National Night of Prayer for Life Dec. 8. Adoration was held from 6:30 p.m. to midnight. Seven took part in the ‘Hour of Unity’ from 11 p.m. to midnight.
The St. Joseph Tabernacle Society held a short meeting Dec. 9, then assembled and delivered cookie plates to homebound parishioners.
World Youth Day and Walk for Life teens sold cookie baskets in December. The proceeds were split evenly among the two groups. The four youth who attended the Washington, D.C. Walk for Life reached their fund-raising goal with this activity. They will make a presentation about their trip after Mass Feb. 3 during the usual “Coffee With Christ” time slot.
Parishioners donated two large boxes of items for Southeast Nebraska Center for Pregnancy Counseling and Catholic Social Services as part of the Advent Baby Shower.
The monthly “Coffee With Christ” was held after Mass Jan. 6. Kris Sarver taught iconography.
The Kiwanis of Peru held a breakfast and ‘Doo-Dad’ sale to benefit the World Youth Day students Jan. 12. The effort brought the youth to within $3,000 of their fund-raising goal.
The Knights of Columbus collected donations after Masses Jan. 12-13 as part of the “One Rose/One Life” Campaign.
The St. Joseph and St. Clara Pro-Life Action Team (PLAT) met Jan. 27 after Mass.
Parish council elections will be held Feb. 2-3.
A Light of the World parish retreat will be held Feb. 29 through March 2.

The funeral committee served a dinner after the funeral of Libby Nejezchleb.
The newly elected officers of the Altar Society were installed after Mass Dec. 16. They are Laurie Kohmetscher, Janet Tiemeyer, Pat Hajny and Jeanette Wolfe
New trustees elected for 2008 were Nathan Jarosik and Dale Kohmetscher.
The 7th- and 8th-grade CCD class, under the supervision of teacher Steve Shaw, sponsored a pancake breakfast Jan. 20 after Mass.
The Altar Society has rolls and coffee after Mass while youngsters are at CCD classes.
In observance of World Marriage Day, the Altar Society ladies will sponsor a baked potato buffet at noon Feb. 17. It will be open to the public.

The Knights of Columbus free-throw contest was held Jan. 10 in the Tiehen Gym, for girls and boys ages 9-14.
The “Prayer for Christian Unity” was held Jan.20.
Catholic Social Services was in town to distribute food for the needy Jan. 23. Volunteers helped with the distribution.
“One Rose, One Life” was conducted Jan. 26-27. The Knights of Columbus distributed prayer cards at the Masses and a collection was taken to support pro-life groups and crisis pregnancy centers.
The Knights held a soup supper and bingo Jan. 26 in O’Connor Hall.
A LDCCW quilt raffle is being conducted to benefit Catholic Social Services, with Denise Daake in charge.
The Irish Booster Club dinner and auction will be Feb 9. Reservations for dinner need to be made by Feb. 1.
The annual Light of the World Retreat will be Feb. 23-25.
Greenwood, St. Joseph

Father Coulter announced that an anonymous donor has given a monetary donation to start a Guardian Angel Fund to assist those in the parish in financial need.
Adult education classes are held at St. Joseph Hall on Tuesday evenings.
The parish hosted the Wahoo Deanery CCW evening of reflection Nov. 12 with guest speaker Father Brian Kane.
Canned goods were donated to the Greenwood Food Pantry recently.
During Advent, donations were given for Christmas flowers in memory of loved ones.
Father Paul York celebrated Masses Dec. 30-31.

The Altar Society met with six members present and welcomed a new member recently. Fundraising for the Altar Society was discussed. Plans are being made for a pork or beef barbeque after Mass the latter part of April. Discussion was held about the upcoming celebration og World Marriage Day. It was decided that three couples will be honored at Mass with gift certificates to local restaurants.
First Communion will be celebrated the first Sunday after Easter.

The Altar Society met after Mass Jan. 20 with 10 members and Father Barak present. The new officers are Shannon Houlden, president; Gayle Royal, vice-president; Janel Callahan, secretary; and Alice Genuchi, treasurer. President Shannon Houlden led the meeting. The secretary read the minutes. The treasurer gave a report and passed out the yearly financial report. Correspondence was read from Father Barak and the Gilligan family. A donation was made to the Lincoln Pregnancy Crisis Center. The Altar Society also made a donation to a local family who lost their home in a recent fire.
The date for the annual spring dinner is April 6.
St. Mary, St. Mary

Joshua Masur participated in the Knights of Columbus free-throw contest at St. Andrew Parish Jan. 13.
The PCCW met Jan. 15 with 14 members present. Lunch was served by the officers. The minutes of the last meeting were read and the treasurer’s report given. MaryAnna Pella delivered the comfort covers to Gold Crest Home in Adams recently. A thank-you was read from Birthright. A memorial Mass will be celebrated in honor of Leona and Joseph Pella. The next meeting will be Feb. 12.
The church council met Jan. 20.

Father Dunavan received a letter from Father Sylvester Okoth from Uganda thanking him and parishioners for their help.
Breakfast will be served Feb. 10 in honor of World Marriage Day with Jodie Harms in charge. The DCCW will meet Feb. 10 at St. Andrew Parish, from 1:30-3 p.m.
Kolaches will be made Feb. 14 for the Feb. 15 fish fry.
First Communion and a reception breakfast following will be held for Spencer McClellen and Kaleb Williams March 16.
Wymore, St. Mary

A soup supper will be held Feb. 10 from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Mary Church, 115 N. 11th St. in Wymore. The menu includes chili, vegetable and ham and bean soups, pies and brownies for a free-will offering.
