The Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth were founded in Kentucky in 1812. Later, a house was established in Tennessee and from there the Sisters moved to Leavenworth, Kansas. At various times, the Sisters staffed Saint Anthony School, Steinauer; Saint Benedict School, Nebraska City; Perpetual Help Hospital, Falls City; and Saint Mary School, Dawson. The Sisters served at Sacred Heart School in Falls City from 1940 to 1993. In the Fall of 2002, Saint Michael School in Fairbury welcomed two of the Sisters back to the Diocese.
