When A Baby Dies...

Healing Hearts assists Catholic families in the grief process. The lost of a baby is one of life's most painful events, filled with sadness, anger, physical pain, loneliness and despair. It can create feelings of disappointment, hopelessness and helplessness.

Grief experienced by such a tragic loss is a natural response, but one that is poorly understood. The griever may feel isolated and alone. Healing Hearts was developed to meet the needs of those bereaved parents, sibilings, grandparents, or whoever may be affected by a loss within the Catholic Community.

Healing Hearts provides a safe, loving and spiritual atmosphere in which to recover. Healing Hearts support program offers one-on-one support during the difficult beginning experiences until the griever moves towards recovery.

Healing Hearts deals with such issues as:

Trained counselors will discuss these and other important topics. A rose with the child's name can be placed at the Blessed Mother statue within the parish and a Mass offered for the family.

Healing Hearts counselors can meet and work with the family and/or coworkers to help them understand the painful loss experienced by the parents and siblings and help them to be a support.

Healing Hearts provides a trained therapist, or a trained volunteer who has experienced the loss of a baby, to be of assistance. For further information on this program and others provided by Healing Hearts, call the Family Life Office at (402) 488-2040.
