July 8, 2011

YORK (SNR/KVSS) - More than 120 priests and seminarians from all three Nebraska dioceses gathered in York June 27 for the "Priest Appreciation Golf Tournament," hosted by the Spirit Catholic Radio Network, Ayars & Ayars, Inc., and Architecture + Etc. This is the fourth year for the event held at the York Country Club.

"This is one of the only events where priests from the Lincoln, Grand Island, and Omaha Dioceses have a chance to get together for fun and fellowship," said Father Adam Sughroue, Associate Pastor at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Lincoln. "We really have a great time."

Several priests, seminarians, and guests who chose not to play golf were able to watch a movie at the local theater, go bowling, or play games and spend time in conversation at the clubhouse. After a grilled hamburger dinner, all enjoyed the many pin prizes and other give-aways. Spirit Catholic Radio Network Executive Director Jim Carroll, and Lincoln/Grand Island Station Director John Soukup provided updates on expansion efforts of the Spirit 91.5 FM signal in Central Nebraska, and the new Spirit 88.3 FM signal in northeast Nebraska.

"We are so grateful for the prayers and support from so many priests and religious," said Mr. Soukup. "This is a fun way to say thanks and share the excitement of our growth. Plus, it’s an opportunity to let priests know that our mission of bringing Christ to people and people to Christ is having a positive impact on their parishes."

Kathi Woody of Ayars & Ayars and the event coordinator is also a member of the Lincoln Advisory Committee for Spirit Catholic Radio, "I’m so blessed to be able to work with priests both from the vantage point of the radio station and our business."Ayars & Ayars provided all the golf, prizes, as well as food and refreshments.
