Office for Evangelization
The Diocesan Evangelization Committee (DEC)
was established by Bishop Flavin in January
1992. The committee exists to assist the bishop
in carrying out evangelization efforts. The
committee is comprised of priests and laity from
around the diocese.
Since 1995 when Bishop Bruskewitz requested
that parish evangelization teams be formed, DEC
has offered many opportunities for our 135
parishes. Some of these things provided are: a
list of possible evangelization programs and
resources, annual evangelization conferences,
the SINE process, training in the RCIA program
by Barbara Morgan, and Disciples In Mission. The
DEC has also received training in evangelization
via phone conferences with our professional
consultant, Tom Curran. Please let us know what
you need and offer your good ideas to be shared
with others as we all join together to
evangelize southern Nebraska!
Mission Statement:
The Diocesan Evangelization Committee is an
advisory committee for assisting the Bishop in
his duty to "Go into the whole world and
proclaim the Gospel to every creature" (Mk
16:15). The committee intends to do this by
recommending ways of informing, educating and
motivating the priests of the diocese, the
Catholic lay people, the inactive Catholics and
non-Catholics and by implementing these ways if
asked to do so.
