Education Technology Initiative
Since 1996, private anonymous donors have
funded a sizeable Education Technology
Initiative in the Diocese of Lincoln. The
Initiative serves to enhance education in
Diocesan schools through teacher training in
classroom technology utilization and the
administration and maintenance of modern
technological equipment. Various projects of the
initiative have resulted in connecting all the
schools as a networked environment, providing
teacher laptops, student computer labs,
classroom SMART boards, library cataloging and
lunchroom software, student information
management system, Blackboard course management
system, and interactive student tools.
One of the most well-received components of
the Technology Initiative is teacher workshops.
Over 30 training sessions are offered to
teachers throughout the school year and during
the summer, helping teachers incorporate
technology into the curriculum. For several
years, these sessions were hosted in a large
hall set up as an ad-hoc classroom. In 2009, the
Saint Maximilian Kolbe room was established as a
permanent training center at the Blessed John
XXII Center in Lincoln to host these training
sessions. There are two staff members, dedicated
to teacher training, available for on-site
workshops in the school setting and who organize
the summer trainings.
In addition to the two team members dedicated
to training, there are three full time team
members dedicated to maintenance and deployment
of hardware. The team is headed by Msgr John
Perkinton, superintendent of Schools; Ken
Pinkerton, Network Coordinator; and Sr. Mary
Kansier, Administrative Coordinator.
"Our Catholic schools are very advanced, even
compared to public schools," Bishop Bruskewitz
said. "We can certainly thank and pray for the
generous people who provide the educational
technology equipment, training and ongoing
sustenance for this."
